On July 24th 2024 after a week of final exams the ECLC summer term 2024 at PKU has officially ended. With a ceremony, on which outstanding students were awarded, and a final dinner with all students from Aarhus, Tübingen and Würzburg as well as the full ECLC staff, the term was wrapped.
The summer term 2024 at ECLC has officially begun. The office welcomes students from Aarhus, Würzburg and for the first time also from Tübingen University.
The winter term 2023/24 marks the first term after the beginning of the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic in 2019/20 that a group of students from Aarhus and Würzburg is studying at the ECLC again. Students have arrived at the end of February and regular classes have started in March. All operations of the ECLC at PKU are back to normal.
The ECLC uses its own teaching materials, which are constantly updated and revised by its staff in cooperation with the European partner universites. Most recently the teaching materials for the classes Applied Commercial Chinese (实用商务汉语) and Applied Chinese Grammar (实用汉语语法 ) have been updated, typeset and received new covers. The teaching material for Applied Colloquial Chinese 实用汉语口语 has received a rather big update two years ago. Since then some smaller mistakes have been corrected. All teaching materials now are printed in the same format and have received new book covers.
Due to the worldwide outbreak of SARS-Cov-2 in early 2020 the European partner universities have not been able to send their students to Peking University since the summer/spring term 2020. Instead the ECLC office has arranged for online classes, which are taught by the staff in Beijing to students in Germany, Denmark and Norway. While online exercises and classes cannot fully make up for the study experience in China, students may thereby graduate in time and with a good command of Chinese.
After a week of final exams the summer semester 2019 is finally over. We hope all students had a great time and a great learning experience at ECLC, the School of International Studies, Peking University, and in Beijing. The office staff and teachers are very sattisfied with this semester’s students, their attendance in class, as well as participation in activties.
For celebrating the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, Peking University invited our ECLC students together with other exchange students to a special activity on Friday evening 6/15. Under guidance of a professional cook, the students were taught how to prepare Zongzi 粽子, a traditional dish that every Chinese loves to eat during the Dragon Boat Festival.
On a sunny Friday in late spring 2018, Danish and German students from the ECLC gathered in the district around one of Beijing’s many ancient landmarks: the Drum Tower. At 13:30, the bells of the Drum Tower heralded a relaxing afternoon for the students who are in the seventh week of studying Chinese language at Peking University.
Eleven students from Aarhus and Würzburg University participated in this year‘s Asian International Model United Nations (AIMUN) conference. The highly anticipated annual event took place from March 29th to April 1st. The students are currently enrolled at Peking University for their compulsory semester abroad of their Chinese Studies Bachelor‘s programme. In addition to their coursework, they thoroughly prepared for their role of representing a designated country in multilateral talks and discussions. Every year our European students proactively take part at AIMUN to engage with international students and learn about foreign affairs.
